At the intersection of art, business, and technology.

McCauley Studios brings creative thinking, business understanding, and technical craft to the same work.

We shape ideas, design experiences, and build software. Whether we’re helping a new business take shape or an established organization find its next direction, we consider how its offer, its people, and its tools work together.

Good ideas are often already there.

The people closest to a business know things no brief can fully capture: what customers keep asking for, where work gets difficult, and which possibilities deserve more attention.

We start with that knowledge.

Some of the most useful opportunities sit between familiar parts of a business.

  • A conversation that needs to become a decision.
  • A promise that needs to reach the person delivering it.
  • Something learned from a customer that could improve the way the whole team works.

We help make those connections clearer, then work with you to give the ideas a practical form.

What that looks like in practice.

Our work can involve shaping an offer, designing a website or product, building software, or improving an everyday process. We look at the people and decisions around the work to understand what it needs to accomplish.

We care about its expression: the words, the visual character, and the experience of using it. We give the same attention to what supports it: how information moves, who needs to be involved, and what happens next.

A customer should be able to recognize the same business in what it says, what it makes, and how it treats them. The people doing the work need the clarity and tools to deliver that experience.

The Maker Hub YYC

With JC2 and the Maker Hub, we’ve worked across the membership offer, marketing, and the software behind the community.

The work connects how people discover the Maker Hub with how they join, pay, participate, and get help. The member app brings announcements, events, community conversations, member profiles, and resources into a space with the community’s own identity.

It’s an example of how we approach the work: considering the business, the experience, and the technology together.

  • Maker Hub member app home: a member greeting, announcements and a weekly make-progress prompt.

How we work.

We begin by listening and looking closely at what’s already happening. We want to understand the ambition, the practical constraints, and the knowledge people bring to the work.

Together, we decide what’s worth changing and what a useful first result would look like. We make the work visible as it develops, test it with the people who will use it, and use what we learn to guide the next decision.

We use AI agents in research, design, development, and testing. Alec directs their work, reviews the results, and remains responsible for what we deliver.
